The Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools and Colleges boys soccer championship qualifiers commenced last week with lots of fun, excitement and expected results in five different centers.
In total, 132 schools competed against each other in the preliminary series in 32 different groups with only the champions advancing for the main event.
Most of the top schools secured qualification notably reigning champions Kumasi High School who emerged champions of the last edition with a 2-0 win over Adu Gyamfi SHS in early 2020.
T.I Ahmadiyyah SHS, Kumasi, Prempeh College, Opoku Ware SHS, Adu Gyamfi SHS, Islamic SHS, Kumasi Anglican and much more have all advanced to the main competition which starts next week.
However, so far the most surprising outcome was the failure of Osei Tutu SHS inability to sail through, having lost the slot painfully to Bodwesango SHS in Group 29 last Tuesday.
However, there are protest cases at hand with some schools seriously appealing for the use of unqualified players against them by other schools during the qualifiers and want them kicked out. These cases has to be dealt with and settled before the competition could begin.
The main tournament will kickstart on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Baba Yara Stadium
