Kindergarten, primary, JHS in Ghana to reopen on January 15

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that Kindergarten, primary, and Junior Highs school (JHS) pupils in both private and government schools will resume school on January 15, 2021.
In his 21st COVID-19 address on Sunday, January 3, 2021, the president said measures have been put in place to make the schools safe for pupils.
He said safety measures devised by the government is to prevent the spread of the virus in schools and to ensure the safety of pupils.
Ghana confirmed its first case of coronavirus on March 12, 2020.
In a bid to keep the rapidly spreading virus at bay, the government announced a series of measures including banning mass gatherings and shutting down all borders and schools.
Nana Addo speaking at the back of reopening of schools said: “So, from 15th January, our children in kindergarten, primary, and Junior High, in both private and public schools, will be back in school.
“All SHS 1 students will start classes from 10th March, with all students embarking on a single-track academic calendar.
“Their seniors in SHS 2 and SHS 3 will, however, return to school from 18th January. I must stress that SHS 3 students in all schools, like SHS 1 students, will no longer run the double-track system.
“The expansion of infrastructure at the various senior high schools, over the last three (3) years, has brought us to this favourable situation.”
