Jordan Ayew scores in front of Akufo-Addo as Crystal Palace thrash Partey’s Arsenal

President Akufo-Addo was in attendance as Crystal Palace recorded an impressive win against Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday evening.

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew was on the score sheet as the Eagles coasted to a 3-0 victory over the Gunners at Selhurst Park.

Akufo-Addo is currently in the UK and is said to have graced the stadium to watch the game between the two London rivals.

Jean-Philippe Mateta put Crystal Palace into the lead with a great header before Ayew added a second following a brilliant left-footed finish.

Wilfred Zaha wrapped up an emphatic result for Patrick Vieira’s side with an expertly converted penalty in the second half.

Ayew’s goal was his second in the Premier League this season and it comes as a huge relief to the striker, who has been struggling for form this term.

Meanwhile, aside from suffering a heavy defeat, Ayew’s compatriot Thomas Partey also suffered an injury during Monday’s game.

The midfielder, who has been very impressive in recent weeks, struggled for much of the game and appeared to have had a muscle sprain in the second half.

Unable to continue, the former Atletico Madrid man was replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga in the 75th minute as Arsenal lost for the second time in three matches.

Both Ayew and Partey featured in Ghana’s two-legged Qatar 2022 playoff game against Nigeria last week.

The Black Stars booked their place at the World Cup following a pulsating 1-1 draw against Nigeria at the Mashood Abiola Stadium last Tuesday.

A first-half strike by Thomas Partey was cancelled out by a penalty from Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong as both teams shared the spoils in Abuja.

The result sealed Ghana’s qualification on away goals after the first leg ended goalless at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Meanwhile, Ghana will hope to do well at the World Cup after being paired in Group H, alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
