Ghanaian giant and African’s club of the 20th century, Asante Kotoko has secured the services of Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto as their head coach.
In a tweet on the club’s official handle, Asante Kotoko confirmed the signing of the former coach of Ghana’s senior national team and the U-23 national team, Black Stars and Black Meteors respectively.
Asante Koto is without a substantive head coach since 18th December 2020 following the sack of their former player and coach, Maxwell Konadu. Assistant coach Johnson Smith and Abdul Gazelle have been in charge since Konadu’s departure.
Mariano Barreto is the last coach to take Ghana to the Olympic Games – 2004 Athens Olympics. He left the team after the Olympics and is returning to Ghana after 17 years.
