As tradition demands, students of every educational institution need to be represented in decision making and the good people of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) are not an exception.
On 16th February 2021, students of AAMUSTED will go to the polls to elect their leaders for the various SRC positions. Key among these is the SRC President of which three candidates are keenly vying for the slot.
Mr. Prince Osei-Tutu, popularly known as POT, Mr. Rchard Opoku alias Omega, and Mr. Peter henry Bernasco also known as Ebo are the aspirants contesting to be elected as the next SRC president of the university.
POT is a level 400 Mathematics student and the CEO of Campus Entrepreneurs Association of POT -Ghana (CEAPOT -GH) – an NGO which aims to train prospective entrepreneurs in various tertiary institutions and rural areas, Richard and Bernasco are level 300 students offering BSc English and BSc Information Technology respectively.
As the nature of politics, the various candidates have publicized their campaign promises and Mr. POT seem to be having the “sweetest” policies that are soothing to the ears; among them is the introduction of commercial transport on the campus of which it’s already operational for free for now and after 17th February students will pay 50p for a ride within campus and GHS1.00 outside the campus.
While Ebo aims to commercialize the “half-fit” SRC bus and introduce a shuttle system with Wifi in the school, Omega summarises his policies and calls it Putting Students First (PSF) agenda which he claims was drafted from the students’ needs – it covers all aspects of students life including entertainment & sports, welfare, security & accommodation, health & sanitization, and special projects initiatives.
After balloting, Mr. Richrd Opoku (Omega) takes the first position, Peter Henry Bernasco (Ebo) and Mr. Prince Osei Tutu occupy the second and the third places respectively.
Can POT wow us with his mathematical know-how, Omega confuse us with his grammar or Ebo excites us with his technological adroitness? AAmusted students will decide.
